High school and university education are qualitatively different, and the issue of connecting the two educational levels is known as the “high school-university articulation problem.” One approach to high school-university articulation is pre-enrollment education. This study surveyed national, public, and private universities in Japan to examine the relationship between the objectives of each university's pre-enrollment education and educational providers, teaching materials, and outcomes based on university selectivity. The results of our association analysis suggest that maintaining academic skills at the high school level forms the foundation of pre-enrollment education across all universities. Moreover, the more selective universities incorporate post-enrollment elements that contribute to achieving the objectives of pre-enrollment education. This study is significant in that it clarifies the grading of pre-enrollment education based on university selectivity. In the future, it will be necessary to consider the arrangement of educational providers and teaching materials that include post-enrollment elements, considering university selectivity.
