Abstract
A total of 849 samples of livestock and fishery products were analyzed for synthetic antibacterial residues. Samples were collected in Osaka prefecture from fiscal 1995 to 2003. Livestock products were analyzed for five kinds of sulfa drugs, oxolinic acid, furazolidone, thiamphenicol, decoquinate, amprolium, flubendazole and triclabendazole. Fish and shellfish were analyzed for six kinds of sulfa drugs, sodium nifurstyrenate, oxolinic acid and furazolidone. Synthetic antibacterial residues were detected in two out of 849 examined samples. Sulfadimidine was detected in one (2.1 mg/kg) of 110 samples of domestic pork. Sulfamonomethoxine was detected in one (0.06 mg/kg) of 156 samples of domestic chicken egg. Synthetic antibacterial agents were not detected in 205 samples of domestic or imported fishery products analyzed.
