By the “Zenkoku Kojo Tsuran. 1950, ” list of factories in Japan, I recollected all factories by cities, towns and villages. Then I dotted them every community. Therefore the Maps show the regional distribution of industries in Japan.
The facts, observed by this work, are as follows; (1) Industrial distribution have four cores, viz. Tokyo district, Osaka district, Nagoya district and Northern Kyushu district. From these cores the factories expand all around. (2) Many of the big factories situate at the sea coast, while the small ones distribute at the inland districts. And in case of the latter, the industries are chiefly lumbering, agricultural tools, foods, fabrics.
The reason of this fact comes from the abundance of raw materials, lack of capitals, demand of regional makets, and especially the existence of agrarian over-population.
