Triacanthodes indicus, a new triacanthodid fish collected from the south-western Indian Ocean, is described and figured from 13 specimens.This species is clearly separated from T.anomalus and T.ethiops by having much larger olfactory organs.The new species represents the first record of the genus from an oceanic region.
