Abstract
What considerations should be made before an orthodontist proposes orthodontic treatment for adult patients? It is improbable to expect growth of the jaw bone for adults and there may be more carious, restored, or missing teeth in adult patients than in young patients.Periodontal disease may compromise the esthetic result in adult orthodontic treatment and may pose more serious complications possibly.destroying the integrity of the entire dentition..In addition, there is a report in which the incidence of periodontal disease for adult patients is higher than that for young patients; 79.6% of patients between 45 and 64 years old suffer from periodontal disease.
This article will discuss guidelines from the periodontal perspective.to evaluate the treatability of periodontally compromised adult orthodontic patients.
