A bigamous trio of the Japanese Wagtail Motacilla grandis was observed in the breeding season of 1985 at Utsunomiya, central Honshu. The trio seemed to consist of a pair (A, B) and a female (C). In both of the first and renesting broods, the two females participated in building the nest, incubating the eggs, and feeding the young. It was not known whether or not the subordinate female (C) laid eggs. This trio differs from other bigamous case of this species in which the females occupied mutually exclusive area within the male territory.
