We will report a case of idiopathic common carotid artery dissection diagnosed by examining the cause of neck pain. The patient, a 49-year-old woman who presented with a chief complaint of pain on the left side of her neck visited our hospital. Ultrasonography of the neck revealed hypertrophy of the intima and tunica media, while computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed stenosis of the left common carotid artery. Based on examination by a neurologist, we decided to take a conservative approach with blood pressure management and neck movement limitations. As a result, the pain on the left side of the patient’s neck disappeared, and neck ultrasound results indicated that hypertrophy of the intima and tunica media of the left common carotid artery had decreased. No aggravation of the condition has been noted during 12-months of follow-up.
