A granulocytopenia developed in a 19-year-old man who had the surgical operationof resection of the mandibular bone for chronic osteomyelitis. This lesion occurred after daily intravenous administration of cefmenoxime for 21 days. When the serum of the patient was examined immunologically, no specificity to cefmenoxime but cross reactivity to another antibiotics were observed. Steroid therapy and fresh blood transfusion facilitated recovery of the lesion.
Although he received no antibiotics during treatment, the patient had no signs of infection as a result of isolating sterilized condition.
