口腔扁平上皮癌の性差に関する研究

In the present study, records were reviewed to delineate gender differences in tumor characteristics in 256 patients with previously untreated squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity who had undergone surgical treatment at our Department between January 1985 and December 1977. There were 180 men and 76 women. As compared with tumors in men, tumors in women were characterized by, more frequent occurrence in the gum and buccal mucosa, a higher incidence of exophytic growth, earlier stages of cancer, well differentiated squamous cancer, and a lower grade of cancer invasion. The rate of disease-specific survival at 5 years in men and women were 68.8% and 92.1%, respectively. Proportional hazards models among 256 patients revealed that independent risk factors were gender and tumor stage.
