Abstract

In order to investigate the actual situation of the rest standing posture of man of daily life, the people waiting electric trains on the platform of the station were protographed at 30minutes intervals from 8.00a.m. to 12.00p.m. The results of this investigation were following: 1) The rest standing postures were classified into 12 types . 2) A standing posture with one leg stepped slightly forwards laterally, which is usually called "standing at ease", is the most popular in them and was found in one thirds of the population at the station. This was classified in this paper as Posture 6. 3) A standing posture with both feet stepped apart laterally was found in a half of all the people. This is divied into three types as Posture 3, 4 and 5 from view points of position of the center of gravity. The same results were found in both male and female. 4) Throughout the whole day, there were no significant changes in appearance of the type of posture.
