In compliance with the revised Pharmacy Education Model Core Curriculum (2019), hospital pharmacists working as instructors led the initiative to prepare a rubric to evaluate pharmacy students in their practical training and subjected it to a trial run. The rubric was used with 35 students who did their hospital training from the third term of 2017 onwards. All of the evaluation markers improved throughout the practical training, and all of the participating pharmacists together with most of the students understood the overall method of rubric evaluation. The concrete examples in the evaluation items were particularly useful in the task evaluation. However, in the final evaluation, more than 50% of the students did not reach the target stage required for the practical training. Because there was a gap between the results of the pharmacists’ evaluation and the students’ self-evaluation, it may be necessary to discuss the evaluation method and goals. The key point to a smooth introduction of the rubric evaluation system is to ensure that hospital pharmacists create the goals and evaluate the students accurately.
