This paper summarizes our experiences in changing from face-to-face instruction to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. We predicted that it would be difficult to understand the 3D structure of organic molecules in the 2D environment of an online organic chemistry class. Therefore, we created a movie of 3D structures using a virtual molecule editor program, Chem3D®, showing them moving in various directions to explain stereochemistry. In addition, we introduced our students to Cheminfo, an open-source website. Cheminfo was used to draw organic molecules and convert them from 2D to 3D structure. Similar to face-to-face training, 3D views of molecules on the Worldwide Protein Data Bank website provided practical training, enabling students to observe and analyze drug-protein interactions on their personal computers during online learning.
