Abstract

A core curriculum of pharmacy education in Japan has been updated in 2022, which introduced outcomes/competency-based education. Competency-based education (CBE) is an education model that has been advocated for health professionals education globally. However, this model was introduced to Japanese pharmacy education newly. This paper introduces global trends of health professionals education, including pharmacy education, a background of the recommendation of CBE by the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), CBE concept and its history. This paper also describes the features of CBE and the supports of its implementation.
