Separation of Human Neutrophils in Self-Generated Continuous Density Gradients of Percoll

Human neutrophils were separated into two fractions using a continuous density gradient of Percoll solution. A marked decrease in O₂^- production was observed in the low-density neutrophil fraction. There was little erythrocyte contamination in the high-density neutrophil fraction (<0.5%), and thus the hypotonic or ammonium chloride lysis of erythrocytes was not necessary.
