Abstract
We report a case of 1-year-6-month-old boy with post-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans (BO) diagnosed on the basis of his clinical course and a CT examination of his chest.Measurements of the concentrations of some inflammatory mediators in serum and sputum revealed that the IL-8 and elastase concentrations were elevated in both. The sputum ECP concentration was high, but the serum ECP level was not.The sputum VEGF and FGF levels were elevated.Since the serum KL-6 and vWF levels were high, this condition was very similar to acute lung injury. The serum level of KL-6 has remained high, suggesting that the serum KL-6 level is an important index for follow-up of BO.Neutrophil inflammation appears to play a major part in the pathogenesis of BO.
