As a part of the etiological analysis of “Primary Atypical Pneumonia (PAP)”, roles of mumps virus, Mycoplasma hominis and Dermatophagoides pharinae (housemite) were investigated serologically.
Complement fixation tests with mumps virus antigen and with M. homonis antigen were separately conducted on paired serum specimens collected on 158 PAP patients, and agar gel diffusion test with D. farinae antigen was made on paired serum specimens obtained on 80 PAP patients.
No cases demonstrated any consistent elevation of antibody values in any test. Thus, it may be mentioned that these three agents play, if any, a little role in etiology of PAP.
