Abstract
Patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) are at an increased risk of developing inguinal hernia ; however, there is much debate on the use 06 surgical therapy for inguinal hernia and perioperative management of chronic renal failure in such patients. Herein, we have reported the successful management of 3 such patients treated using mesh plug repair. All 3 patients were diagnosed with indirect inguinal hernia that developed 3 weeks to 4 months after the initiation of CAPD. Mesh plug repair was performed in all 3 patients. Temporary hemodialysis was introduced in the postoperative course of 2 patients, but CAPD was immediately resumed on postoperative day 2 in the third patient. The patients neither experienced major complications nor recurrence of inguinal hernia during the postoperative course. Mesh plug repair seems to be suitable for the surgical treatment of patients with inguinal hernia after initiation of CAPD, and immediate resumption of CAPD in the postoperative course may be safe for such patients.
