Abstract
The patient was an 80-year-old woman who had undergone laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) at our hospital 6 years earlier, with an uneventful post-operative course. She came to our hospital with a 1-year history of epigastric discomfort. She was investigated thoroughly in our hospital because a liver function disorder developed in 2012. The further evaluation showed common bile duct calculi caused by a migrated clip into the common bile duct after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Choledocholithotomy and a diversion operation were performed, and the patient had an uneventful recovery. LC has become the standard treatment for cholelithiasis. However, common bile duct calculi caused by migrated clips have been reported as long-term complications, with 23 reports of such common bile duct calculi in Japan in recent years. The development of common bile duct calculi caused by migrated clips should be considered a long-term complication after LC.
