The principle of an active thermal protection system is proposed. The active thermal protection system that consists of a few mm thick layer can keep the back face at room temperature against a high-temperature environment of 2000-3000K. An application to the high-performance thermal protection for a space plane and possibility of radiation heat-transfer control are introduced.
