A vibration mill, called a “tandem-ring mill”, which has cog-ring media in place of the ball medium of a conventional vibration mill, was developed to achieve high-impact pulverization of lignocellulose biomass for biomass pretreatment. For scale up of pulverization, TR-3000 type tandem-ring mill was manufactured to realize the kilogram-scale pulverization and the continuous pulverization. In this study, pulverizing effect on batch pulverization of TR-3000 type tandem-ring mill was investigated. As the result, the mean particle size achieved around 30 μm at 20 min in 5kg batch pulverization, and saccharification efficiency was reached around 70% in 5 kg batch pulverization. However, the pulverization efficiency was decreased with increasing enclosed powder weights as 7 and 9 kg batch pulverization. To improve pulverization efficiency, a clearance between ring media was adjusted. Then it was confirmed that the increasing clearance between ring media showed better tendency.
