Abstract

We characterized the genetic variations and relationships of cherries among 56 cultivars by RAPD analysis. According to the obtained phenogram, two major clusters, "Fruiting cherry group" and "Flowering cherry group" were established. We found sufficient DNA polymorphisms among cherries, which indicate that fruiting cherry were genetically distant from flowering cherry. In addition, Lithocerasus and the Chinese cherries are genetically more distant to the other flowering ones.
