The Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries Products (AFFP) Export Promotion R&D Platform @ Kyushu-Okinawa (PF Kyu-Oki) is one of the platforms in the Field for Knowledge Integration and Innovation (FKII) organized by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. In this special feature, we introduce the wide-area collaboration by Coordination Unit (CD Unit) which consists of university's research support personnels in PF Kyu-Oki. In this article, we provide an overview of the current state of AFFP exports in Okinawa at first, and then introduce the effort undertaken by CD Unit in Okinawa. As a member of CD Unit, a university research administrator (URA) of the University of the Ryukyus endeavored to collect policy information related to promoting AFFP export in Okinawa and exchange information with policy officials. Among the inquiries from members of PF Kyu-Oki, the URA took up the issue about the reduction of plastics in distribution of AFFP, and planned a workshop aimed at utilizing the research seeds concerning this issue developed by local companies and Okinawa Industrial Technology Center.
