Acceleration of R&D Activities of Toray by Open Innovation

Abstract

Toray group (abbreviated to Toray) have held up R&D policy "breakaway from principles of closed innovation" and have brought open innovation into R&D activities since 2002. The main reason is to accelerate R&D activities, in particular, to develop more advanced technology or materials in shorter period and by lower cost. This paper introduces concrete examples, achievement, future tasks, and foresight of Toray's open innovation.
