Abstract
Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the oral mucosa and clinically manifests in various ways. Patients with erosive OLP usually feel uncomfortable or experience severe contact pain while eating and cleaning the teeth. Therefore, their oral hygiene standards become very poor and this is considered to exacerbate OLP. We evaluated the effects of dental hygienists providing professional oral care and instructions on care practices for clinical erosive OLP to ten patients with this condition and poor oral health. We found that OLP clinically improved in all patients after learning about oral care and practices. Professional oral care delivered by dental hygienists is important for the management of patients with OLP, especially erosive OLP accompanied by contact pain.
