The standard for contact pressure of dial gauges was established, but as to the standard for the effect of the friction force we have not yet.
We performed a few experiments and theoretical investigations to measure the representative value of the friction, and we showed a simple method to suggest that value. According to these results, it must be noted that there is not always t he one-to-one relation between the reading and the contcat pressure when the dial gauge is used to find the displacement of a body having comparatively small spring coefficient, and furthermore that these cumbersome facts are also produced by the friction represented in the form of a “Stich-Ship Motion”.
