In this paper, the author presents an analytical formula for the surface roughness in flat superfinishing on the assumption that the deformation is ideally plastic and the paths of abrasive grits on the work remain as they are. In this case only the cutting process is considered excepting the mirror finishing process. Further, he measures the surface roughness by a reflection method (NF roughness) and discusses the formula with reference to some experimental results.
