Abstract
The mechanism of orthogonal cutting at high temperature was analysed by the photographic method from the viewpoints of type of chip, cutting ratio, shear angle and shear strain.
In order to avoid the wear and the chipping of cutting edge and the transformation of work material at high temperature, paraffin was used as work material.
As the temperature of work piece increases, the type of chip tends to be a flow type.
Cutting ratio, shear angle and shear strain were affected by the top rake angle of cutting tool.
