In this parer the effect of hot machining by electric current is discussed theoretically and examined by experiment.
The principle of this new method of hot machining is to connect the cutting tool and the workpiece to electric source and to heat the vicinity of the cutting edge by electric current directly. By this method the region of the workpiece which is deformed by the cutting tool coincides with the heat source, so the many desirable effects are expected.
According to the experiment in which carbon steel and copper are used as the workpieces, appreciable improvement of machinability can be achieved by this method.
