The density distribution, one of the most important properties of compacts, has serious influences on the strengh and the accuracy of sintered parts. And it is impossible to press compacts of uniform density because of the die-wall friction.
Under the assumption that the pressure-density characteristic of powder could be expressed with hyperbolic function, the authers tried the theoretical analysis on the density distribution of cylindrical iron powder compacts.
The density distribution by the theory fairly agreed with the experimental results obtained by the special measuring technique using x-ray and fine lead balls.
