This paper deals with the following problems by the method of establishing compound sequences developed in the 3rd Report :
(1) the problem of minimum working value
(2) the problem of line balancing
The algorithm similar to the one developed for the problem of minimum transition value of linear sequence in the 2nd Report has been used for case (1). The concept of lower bound on idle time and time chart on work elements have been introduced for case (2). By combining cases (1) and (2), the method for more general line balancing problems to minimize the total cost necessary for manufacturing one commodity unit has been suggested.
