It is analyzed theoretically that the flatness, straightness, parallelism nearly equal zero machining can be done by this vibration pulse plaining. And these realized values are investigated experimentally using a new square-nose-straight-tool with ultrasonically bending vibration is fixed on the tool post of the precision vibration plainer. Main cutting conditions are as follows: the vibration tool; in the same direction as that of plaining, frequency ; f= 21.5 kHz, 21.4 kHz, amplitude ; a=26 μm, tool material ; carbide tool K 10, diamond, tool profile; rake angle=0°, clearance angle=8°, cutting speed ; 8 m/min const., depth of cut ; 0.0050.2 mm, feed; 110 mm/stroke, work material ; aluminium (σB=8kg/mm2), duralumin (σB=18 kg/mm2), brass (σB=40kg/mm2), carbon steel (σB=65kg/mm2), nickel-chrome steel (σB=80 kg/mm2), cast iron (for surface plate), stone (for surface plate). The main results are as follows: 1) Surface roughness of 0.2 μmRmax is obtained. 2) Straightness of 2μm per the length of 400 mm is obtained. 3) Flatness of 5. 3 μm per the area of 300 mm×300 mm surface plate of cast iron and flatness of 3 μm per the area of 300 mm×350 mm surface plate of stone are obtained. 4) Parallelism of 3 μm per the length of 450 mm is obtained. 5) By this study, it is proved that this vibration pulse plaining has the possibility of flatness, straightness, parallelism nearly equal zero machining.
