Although an ultrasound abdominal examination has become an important diagnostic procedure for pediatric patients, there have been few specific method-or equipments especially designed for infants and children. At our institution, a 7. 5 MHz mechanical sector probe with PVDF (polimer) transducer was newly developed and utilized for the purpose of obtaining higher resolution capability in ultrasonographic images for small children. Sedative agents were given before examination, when necessary. A nasogasrtic decompression and refilling fluid were sometimes useful for better imaging. Kitecho^<[〇!R]> was occasionally applied in examination of neonates. A mechanical sector probe designed for surface organs was also utilized for examination in neonates. By means of these operation methods, we could obtain markedly improved diagnostic accuracy in ultrasonographic examination for infants and children. In the present paper, we will demonstrate the following findings: a protein plug in the pancreatic duct; splenic hilar varices; pyloric mass; a medulla and a cortex of the adrenal gland; testicular torsion ; occult air in the intrahepatic biliary ducts in necrotizing enterocolitis.
