Three species of the genus Heteroderes Latreille, 1834 are confirmed in Japan. Heteroderes kusuii Ohira, 1994 is synonymized with H. amplicollis (Gyllenhal, 1817), which is widely distributed in the New World, Polynesia and Micronesia. Heteroderes changi Ôhira, 1967 was originally described from Taiwan, and is recorded from Japan for the first time with a supplemental description. The two species are regarded as alien species introduced by human activity. Heteroderes inexpectatus Kishii, 1969 is also probably an introduced species, although it was originally described from eastern Honshu, Japan. A key to Heteroderes species inhabiting Japan is given.
