Abstract
Eosinophil-rich cutaneous pyogranulomas occurred in two adult horses. Lesions included papules, plaques, and nodules over the face, neck, brisket, and shoulder. Many lesions showed surface alopecia, crusting, and hyperkeratosis. Some lesions had purulent discharge, and some seemed pruritic or painful. Histopathological findings included diffuse eosinophilic granulomatous dermatitis with multifocal areas of necrosis and neutrophil accumulation. Tissue cultures grew coagulase-positive staphylococci. Treatment with trimethoprim-sulfamethazole (4 weeks) and dexamethasone (5 days) was curative.
