Abstract
Patent classification is explained for patent beginners or those who work in the patent search from now. For easy to imagine the patent classification, it is compared with a biological classification. The outline of International Patent Classification (IPC) is explained. This paper describes FI, Facet Classification and F-Term those are Japanese patent classifications, in comparison with the International Patent Classification. The classification methods for patent publications are also explained. In addition, CPC and US class are introduced, those are foreign patent classifications. Finally, this paper explains how to identify the patent classification when you search patent publications.
