Information literacy education at Japanese universities has two contexts. One is a developed form of user education in university libraries, and the other is generalized information processing education. Although the two contexts have different backgrounds and perspectives, they have come to use the common term of purpose “Information Literacy Education”. These educational programs should be implemented holistically at universities. In this article, I introduce examples of information literacy classes integrating the two contexts. Finally, I consider the issues involved in realizing consistent education connecting elementary school, junior high school, high school, and university.
