Digital Typhoon is a typhoon big data project for collecting, integrating, analyzing and searching various data about typhoons. The uniqueness of the project is “search technologies for situational awareness” having disaster information in mind. Situational awareness is a decision making process for the next actions based on the current situation. To support agile and adaptive decision making, Digital Typhoon aims to build a hybrid of pull-based service to dig into the database as well as push-based service to deliver information to users. The paper introduces methods for modeling situations and metrics for ordering various types of data such as image data, trajectory data, observation data and textual data.
