Recently, the role of public libraries has shifted from the traditional concept of “facilities for lending books” to “libraries as central facilities for community development” in Japan. For transiting the library's type to a so-called “stay-type library”, to produce coziness is a crucial point. Also, in selecting the library furniture, it is important not only considering functionality or safety but also design. In this report, I consider the selection of appropriate furniture for creating a new library based on some experience, which has involved personally in the construction and renovation of public libraries as an advisor and coordinator.
