During the three years from 2016 to 2018, about 60 prototypical chairs were made in the workshop of design education at the Kanazawa Umi Mirai Library on the theme of ‘chairs to enrich the time spent in the library’. As a research method, through observing the movement and behavior of people using the library, some prototypes of chair were inspired and realized into the actual ones which will support comfortable and smart reading in the library, and the popularity poll was made by sitting on each chair exhibited around the reading room. Chairs ranked high result in showing the following three features: to be conscious of the environmental reading amenity, the comfortable reading posture and the systematic library services. These innovative chairs are designed to open a new horizon for reading experience of the future (mirai) library.
