Digital transformation (DX) is not the simple replacement of the procedures or workflow of the existing operations with the those digitally executed. DX is the use of digital technology to induce the changes in the systems, organizational structure, business models, or culture of the operations. This paper, while considering the past trends of digitization in university libraries, trends in scholarly communication, and trends in the digitization of research and education, describes the path toward the DX of university libraries in accordance with the stages of digitization, digitalization, and DX in the areas of contents, space, and human support which constitute the university library function.
