The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) published by the Council of Europe in 2001 was created based on plurilingualism and pluriculturalism as educational principles and on an Action-oriented approach as concept for language education. The Japanese-language teachers at the University of Leuven introduced the CEFR into their curriculums since its publication. Currently they are engaged in compiling a CEFR B1-level textbook taking into account the results of a four years' collaborative research with the Université de Grenoble on CEFR B1 level as well as the knowledge gathered throughout their teaching experiences.
