This study elucidated the characteristics of Japanese in an IT corpus we created. The corpus consists of the documents that IT engineers read and written, collected from two IT companies. The analysis of the data revealed that nouns denoted the most employed parts of speech. The examination also disclosed the frequent use of verb expressions explaining rules (“-to suru”), explaining varied aspects of the system to be developed (passive + “-teiru”), and indicating operational conditions governing the system to be developed (conditional form or “-dearu koto”).
