The COVID 19 pandemic continues to make it imperative that learners remain safe during classroom conversational activities. In this article, learners in intermediate-level Japanese language classes exchange video recordings using an ICT tool as part of a discussion practice. For classroom discussions, learners recorded their opinions and responses in Flip, an educational Social Network Service (SNS). Using the tool, learners were able to create and upload videos outside of the class, providing learners with a safe environment to participate in the discussion activity in a classroom setting. Moreover, the products seem to suggest that learners took the time and effort to post their responses, though this may be an auxiliary effect. Surveys should be conducted to assess the educational methodological value of this attempt.
