This research analyses how different meanings of aspectual Japanese form -teiru correlate to Ukrainian aspectual forms using translations of modern literature texts. Among other usages, “result state” can be expressed by participles, perfective, imperfective verbs, etc., which makes it difficult for Ukrainian students to understand its meaning. We survey how form -teiru is presented in educational materials used at a foreign language university in Ukraine. After pointing out several issues when introducing form -teiru to Ukrainian students we make pedagogical suggestions of possible changes.
