Observations on hunting flights of Myotis frater kaguyae IMAIZUMI, 1956 were conducted in Kado (Alt. 275-450m), Iwaizumi-machi, Shimohei-gun, Iwate Pref., northern Honshu, on 4-5 Sept. 1961, 26-27 Sept. 1963, 30 Sept. 1964, 6-7 Oct. 1964, and 14-15 May 1965. In total, twelve were observed by the author, and three of them were captured for species identification.
Hunting places of this species are rather narrow and flat spaces between low mountains. In these places, Pipistrellus endoi IMAIZUMI, 1959 and Nyctalus lasiopterus aviator THOMAS, 1840 were very numerous, but this species was not so common.
This species generally emerges in twilight from about 5 p. m. to 7 p. m., evidently later than Pipistrellus endoi. These bats fly nearly straight for about 30m to 40m, horizontally and perpendicularly, at a height of about 2m above the earth, and repeat such straight flights several times. They never fly through foliage as does Rhinolophus cornutus cornutus TEMMINCK, 1835.
