An individualized instruction system involving merits of ordinary classroom teaching has been developed with our original conception. The system consists of computer and CAI terminals, cassette VTRs, cassette audio taperecorders, guide cards, textbook, and teacher. Learning atthe CAI terminal is not based on usual programed instruction. In this system, the role of CAI terminal is implementation of some tests and control of learning process. Our individualized instruction system described above was named Computer Oriented Instruction (COI) system. The CAI program used in COI system can be written by an easy and systematic manner. The COI system has been applied to the course of early computer education which was designed originally for improvement on capability of logical thinking. Experiments of computer education by COI system were tried for 31 students (total of '74 and '75) of junior high school. Roles of elements in the COI system are discussed from the results of experiments.
