The purpose of this study was to analyze, through the eyes of the teachers themselves, the flow of teacher decision-making during instruction. A second purpose was to investigate the relationships between teacher decision-making and teaching behaviors. The study involved fifth grade elementary school social studies classes and second year lower secondary school mathematics classes. The main results of this study showed that : 1. A series of categories for teachers to use in analyzing their own decision-making processes during the teaching process were developed. Two major sub-categories were prepared. One for categorizing the objects of the decision-making process, the other for categorizing the degree of confidence in the decision. 2. A " plan revision index " and an " immediate decision index" were also developed as means of discovering various characteristics related to the teacher decision-making process. 3. This study showed that there is no direct relationship between decisions to change the plan of the instruction and the teacher's actual behaviors. But, rather, that these relationships are mediated by perceived discrepancies between the teacher's instructional plan and the realities of the classroom.
