Effective training method of position fixing at training ship - Examination of training methods for each element of position fixing -

Abstract

 In ship operations, it is extremely important to monitor the position of the ship for maintaining a safe voyage. Considering the current situation of the dissemination of GPS and ECDIS, it has become common to use these navigational instruments. However, it is still essential for officers on watch to have the skills to fix the position with reference to landmarks such as lighthouses, land structures, island topography.

 In this study, two weak points on position fixing skills for deck cadets were identified through the questionnaire survey. As a result, effective training methods for improving the position fixing skills were developed and the validation for effectiveness of the developed training methods was carried out.
