As medical science has developed worldwide, there has been a movement to help the physical therapy (PT) profession evolve, and the United States of America (USA) is the country leading much of this evolution. In the USA, the education of PT initially started as a Post-Baccalaureate certificate program in the 1920s, and since then, the degree requirements have progressed all the way to the doctoral level, known as the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. As of 2015, all PT programs that exist in the USA today are DPT-level only.
