Because of their physical properties, composite materials have been extensively developed and used in industrial scale in the last decades. They are, generally, obtained by mechanical mixing of two or mom milimetric dimension components . Milimetric dimension silicate/carbonous material composites are thoroughly used in industrial sorption processes.Nanocomposites Mineral/Carbonous Material (NMCM) are a new type of material that can be used as catalyst support in chromatography and in sorption processes in general. The outstanding characteristics of NMCM are a porous texture, with highspecific surface area, combined to a partly non-polar surface (the part covered with carbon) and partly polar (silicate surface), that allows to adsorb several different adsorbates. According to the production process, the distribution of surface type could be more or less polar (that is, with more or less percentage of the silicate surface covered with carbon). NMCM's usually possess better mechanical properties than actived carbons. The objective of the present work is to characterize a MCMN prepared from the waste of the soy bean oil industry. The material was evaluated with regard to its sorption power and it was characterized by different techniques such as XRD, TGA, BET, MEV and IR. The material presented high power of methylene blue adsorption.
